Hello and welcome back!
This is my Second Blog Post Ever and its subject is about trying hard. I meant it to be about how I put mood boards together but, as they say, indescribably difficult things happen.
The matter is, I often try hard to accomplish things. Any thing. Because I want this Any Thing to be really good. My First Blog Post Ever was revised 62 times; including after it was published. I finally decided to let it be. ( Hope you liked it).
Then I began planning this second post. It had to be good. Very Good. To make you want to come back and read the next one and the one after that. I guess.
Very Good became another name for Very Difficult and didn’t I say in my First Post Ever that this blog was supposed to be about feeling good?
I DID.
So, I stopped planning and took a break. I walked away and made some soup, read a poem, pet the cat and walked to the sea shore. Then I went back to the computer and found this delectable Aubusson on One Kings Lane and was inspired to design a board with it. Aubusson rugs have always been a favourite and I was attracted by the fleshy pink of this one.
I made several designs and I liked the light, playful spirit of this one.
I had fun putting this board together and there was no trying hard because I worked in joy, the work became play and I felt rejuvenated versus depleted. Such a better way to operate. Sound familiar to anyone?
As for the design, I envisioned it as a corner of a room or an entry, although the rug at 15´1″ x 18´, would make a large (but beautiful) entry.
There were many directions I could have gone with the rug, but I chose to bring out its sweetness by pairing it with the breezy, birds in flight wallpaper. The color contrast between the wallpaper and rug adds welcome tension, while the airiness of the paper matches the lightness of the frameless, fractured-edge mirror (another favourite I have been wanting to use in a design), and both have a linear, organic quality, which sounds like an oxymoron but that´s what I see. Otherwise the rug dominates, being the darkest, largest element in the composition.

I´m excited to push this light, airy theme and make a board that is even more light, more airy and really let the rug shine. In my next post I´ll show you what I come up with and discuss the decisions I made.

* I´m not sure if this mirror is actually available for purchase and furthermore, I enlarged it on the board from its actual size in order to make it “work”. These boards are truly flights of fancy.
